CONCORD RANCH

This split level ranch had great bones - including large windows and an expansive yard - but was in need of updating. We reworked the floor plan to create spaces for the client to entertain and host long term guests. We also wanted to maximize indoor and outdoor connections as much as possible. Strategic additions of a stained cedar stair volume and entry canopy in tandem with landscape updates better defined the entry and broke up the scale of the front facade. On the interior, new finishes throughout modernize the look and feel of the home, with a consistent palate of concrete-look tile, white oak, black and white. The steel floating stair creates a sculptural element linking the two floors and connecting to the outdoors. The clients wish for an open layout in the upper floors was achieved with new columns hidden in the existing central fireplace volume which was wrapped and finished with venetian plaster.
