Rooftop pavilion

This pavilion on the roof of an industrial loft building in Somerville MA was designed to provide access for the owners, who love to garden and to entertain. Chamfers in the plan create wedges of space and pull the massing of the structure back from the edge. Large sliding-glass doors allow potted plants to be rolled into the interior space, and the roof overhangs provide shade in the summer for humans, and lots of sun in the winter for plants.
